Meet Mrs. R.
Mrs. R. is an obese 36 year old G1 P0. The patient and her husband are Spanish speaking, but they do speak and understand some English.
She was admitted to the L&D unit at GMC at 2300 for induction of labor at 38 weeks 2 days.
Patient has a history of GDM that is suspected to be pre-existing and she is now an IDDM. She had a SVE at the doctor's office and was dilated 3 cm 20% effaced and -2 station. She was admitted with specific orders for an insulin dependent diabetic.
Mrs. R refused all genetic testing offered during her pregnancy. It took her 8.5 years to get pregnant and she stated, "We will take whatever God sends us." During her 18 week ultrasound, cardiac abnormalities were suspected, but the patient did not follow up for further testing. The scan showed a possibility that the baby had Tetralogy of Follet.
